Top 10 Blackjack Hit or Stand Strategies
1) Always hit if your hand totals 8 or less.
You can’t bust, and you need more cards to get closer to 21.
2) Stand on 17 or higher.
Especially if it’s a hard 17 (no Ace or Ace counts as 1). You’re likely to bust if you hit.
3) Hit on 12–16 when the dealer shows 7 or higher.
The dealer has a strong chance of making 17–21, so you need to improve your hand.
4) Stand on 12–16 when the dealer shows 6 or lower.
The dealer is more likely to bust, so let them take the risk.
5) Always stand on a hard 13–16 against a dealer 2–6.
You’re in a better position to win by letting the dealer bust.
6) Hit on soft 17 (Ace + 6).
You can’t bust, and a hit gives you a good chance to reach 18–21.
7) Double down on 11 (unless the dealer has an Ace).
You have a strong chance of hitting 21 or a high hand.
8) Double down on 10 when the dealer has 9 or less.
You likely have the advantage here.
9) Hit on soft 13–15 (Ace + 2–4).
You can safely draw to a stronger total since you can’t bust on one hit.
10) Stand on soft 19 or 20 (Ace + 8 or Ace + 9).
These are excellent totals; hitting risks reducing your strength.
